Why
Stabijhoun?
We have been interested in this breed for several years. We have read a
lot about them. And we also studied about this Dutch breed in his original
country, the Netherlands. We have had a good contact with Dutch breeders of
this race. They have even helped us with translating texts and other
information about the Stabijhoun. We
have a lot of faith in the knowledge of these Dutch breeders.
Some of them helped us with breeding and all of our many questions
where answered by them we are very pleased for all the help we have gotten
from them!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Häromi’s kennel has even started to exchange information with other
countries that have stabijhounen. In this way we try to get a very good common
knowledge about: behaviour, mentality, genetics and genetic illnesses of the
breed.
The stabij is a breed who fits to our way of living. And it is a good
complement to our other breed the Leonberger. We like to spend our spare time
at sea the stabij has a good size and is easy to take with us. They love to be
in the sailing boot. They have off course a live jacket on them, we don’t
want anything to happen to them! Further must the dogs have a very good
discipline on the boot.
When we get to a harbor the dogs are very pleased to see the dogs
and people from the other boots. But the funniest part is when the dogs help
the children to fish crabs J!
The dogs know two homes. One is at de office, there they have a kennel in
which they decide for themselves where they want to be: inside or outside.
And there other home is at our house. Here is their favourite spot (as you
can see on the picture) the sofa.
About work, the stabij´s are very good in tracking and they have a lot of
fun by doing it. We are blood tracking with our dogs. They are very systematic
and are very good at it. As soon as they get to the end of the track they are
very happy and proud that they have found the hoof.
Teddy even pulls a little wagon, this is good for the back and the
legs of the dogs. Even with something in the wagon, so they have to work a little
bit (see picture above this page). Sometimes we use bags for the dogs too.
These bags are used for dogs in the mountain so they can carry their own food
and water or something else.
Often when we are out selling on dog shows, our dogs learn very early to
deal with other dogs and people. They also get used to the sounds that come
out of the loudspeaker.
This is a little bit of what we are doing with our dogs. Try it out by
your own animals! It is a lot of fun to work closely to your animals, and the
animals love to do work for and with you!
